Our goal at St. Joseph Lifecare Centre is to have our residents reach their highest level of physical functioning. Our staff is involved in promoting and implementing resident independence. The purpose of restorative care is to increase independence, and ultimately our resident’s self-esteem and self-image through improved mobility and better physical functioning. The focus of a restorative care program will be on mobility, functional fitness training, communication and activities of daily living.
Benefits of Restorative Care:
• To promote wellness and prevent debilitation.
• To provide an atmosphere where residents can live a meaningful life with self-esteem.
• To maintain or improve a resident’s functional abilities in mobility/ambulation, dressing, grooming, bathing and eating.
• To assist the resident to function as independently as possible with a minimum amount of staff assistance.
Unique to St. Joseph Lifecare Centre our Therapy Assistants act as the facilitators of the Restorative Care program: offering guidance on transfer’s, proper lifting techniques, providing independence through proper seating acting as a liaison with the Occupational Therapist & community vendors. Daily exercise classes as well as specialized strengthening classes are offered throughout the week.
